AIBA interim chief 'optimistic' of getting right to organize boxing events at Tokyo Olympics
AIBA interim president Mohamed Moustahsane has stated that he is āoptimisticā of getting the organisation right for the boxing events during the Olympic Games to be held in 2020 in Tokyo. Moustahsane has also added that they had a āproductiveā meeting with the IOC inquiry committee on Monday.
Amidst doubts regarding the organisation of boxing events at the upcoming 2020 Olympics due to International Olympic Committee (IOC)ās enquiry on the International Boxing Association (AIBA), the AIBA chief has now asserted that they are confident of retaining the rights to organise the event next year. The IOC, now, is seeking proof from the AIBA regarding the clearance of all the issues surrounding the latterās governance and finance matters.
"We had a very productive meeting with the IOC inquiry committee today," AIBA interim president Mohamed Moustahsane was quoted as saying by AFP.
"We remain optimistic about the future of Olympic boxing and AIBA's ability to safeguard this great sport," Moustahsane had said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the IOC has clarified that if the suspension on the AIBA continues, then the Olympic Committee will try and ensure that the boxing events are organised in the Tokyo Games next year. However, earlier this month, the AIBA had mentioned that they would look at their legal options if the IOC doesnāt run the boxing programme in Tokyo on their May 22 verdict.
