India must take part in Champions Trophy, says BCCI's Ramachandra Guha

Ramachandra Guha, member of the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators, has voiced his opinion that India should go to the champions Trophy. Guha feels that boycotting such a big quadrennial event does not show a great cricketing nation like India in good light.

The BCCI are in search of some desperate measures after their share of the cash pie dropped down to $290 million from $570 million as per the new financial module. The latest salvo has seen them even contemplating a withdraw from the upcoming Champions Trophy. The Indian board have also missed the April 25 deadline to submit the Champions Trophy squad to the ICC. But Guha appears to be not happy at it and said, India "absolutely must" compete in the event.

Taking to Twitter to make his views clear, the eminent cricket historian wrote, "Speaking in my personal capacity, as a cricket fan, I believe the Indian cricket team absolutely must take part in the Champions Trophy."

He further added, "Boycotting or threatening to boycott a prestigious international tournament does not become a great cricketing nation.”

While it was believed that the SGM to be held on May 7 will take a call on the matter, sources close to the BCCI have recently revealed that a show cause notice will be sent to the cricket’s governing body.

"If BCCI does not send the notice, then it's either agreeing to what is being offered by ICC and its chairman Shashank Manohar or it's mea culpa (acknowledgement that they're wrong)," an official told ToI.

So, with the tussle between the ICC and the BCCI moving towards a new low, it is worth observing the direction this war will take.
