IPL 2018 | CSK set to retain MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja

IPL 2018 | CSK set to retain MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja

Chennai Super Kings are all set to retain their core group of players including MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, and Ravindra Jadeja for the upcoming edition of the IPL. If the franchise successfully retain these cricketers, then 33 crores will be deducted from their total purse of ₹80 crore for the auction.

The next season of the IPL will be a grand one with a mega auction ahead of the tournament and fans may get to see some big players signing up with new teams. After months and months of meetings between the IPL Governing Council and the teams, the former has finally announced that a maximum of five players can be retained and also clarified that both CSK and RR can retain or use their RTM cards for the players’ who represented the franchise in the 2015 edition of the IPL. So, unsurprisingly, CSK has decided to retain their skipper Dhoni and one of the constants in the team over the years, Suresh Raina, in its squad ahead of the 11th edition.

"We have not yet submitted our retention list but it goes without saying that Dhoni and Raina are all but retained. The third retention in all likelihood will be Ravindra Jadeja," an IPL official, who is aware about CSK's team strategy told PTI.

If CSK retain the three cricketers, then ₹33 crore will be deducted from its total auction purse of ₹80 crores. However, given Dhoni’s popularity in the southern state, his retention by the franchise was a no-brainer.

The official also revealed that the CSK management is still undecided on whether to go for Ravichandran Ashwin, who is no longer on the Indian team's radar as far as limited overs cricket is concerned. Ashwin has not played a single T20 for over a year now and it remains to be seen if the franchise is ready to invest in him.

CSK is also keen to get some local Tamil Nadu players for keeping their local flavour. K. Vignesh, Rahil Shah, R. Sai Kishore, N. Jagadeesan, and V. Yo Mahesh provide the franchise a lot of options to pick from.

“We want to, but it also depends on how the auction plays out and their prices. Tamil Nadu players are in demand and the franchises know all about them,” he added.
