Vinod Rai, the head of the Committee of Administrators (CoA), gave his views on the Anil Kumble-Virat Kohli saga as he praised the former coach saying his role was ā€˜absolutely impeccableā€™. Rai also clarified that Kohli will have no say on who the next coach of the Indian team will be.

After a meeting attended by Vikram Limaye and Diana Eduji of the CoA, Amitabh Choudhary, the acting secretary of the BCCI, and Rahul Johri, the BCCI CEO, Vinod Rai addressed the media and claimed that they will look for an equally good coach whilst praising the former coach for his contributions.

"If two persons are thrown together for 24 by 7, there will be difference of professional opinion, so what's there?" Rai said after a meeting of the COA in Mumbai, as quoted by Cricbuzz.

"His contract was for one year, there were perceptions, professional issues. He is more mature person, he decided that 'Look, okay, fair enough.' It is the captain who has to play on the field, isn't it, ultimately?."Ā

"Kumble's role has been absolutely impeccable. He has done very well as a coach. We will go in for an equally good professional to ensure that whether it is the captain or manager, there should be cohesion in the team. What's there to discuss in the coach-captain issue? Listen, what's Anil Kumble statement, don't go by any statement. One good thing about India media is that India media doesn't look into houses, bedrooms, so please don't look into dressing room," he added.

Rai also clarified that Kohli will not have a say in the matter regarding the next coach, even though the BCCI has extended the deadline for applications for the post to July 9th.

Finally, he showed complete trust in the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising of Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, and Sourav Ganguly who will decide the next coach, saying, "CAC comprises three of our most important and best cricketers (Tendulkar, Laxman, and Ganguly). Their credibility, nobody has ever doubted. What we have done is we have enlarged the zone of consideration because we want to get a coach who is competent to train a team for the World Cup."

"See, you apply for something and we feel that we want for others to also apply. Why should it be unfair on anybody? Why shouldn't we go for the best that is available globally. And if you give them seven days to apply, if somebody can't apply, we have to - we need to choose a coach who will get to know the team and be there till the World Cup. And that's why we have done that. We have the best team in the world today. (Losing) One match or two here and there is okay, but we have the best team in the world," he stressed.
