Pakistan batsman Umar Akmal, who was dropped from the national team due to lack of fitness, has blamed his genes for his inability to lose weight. Akmal was trolled on Reddit for claiming that due to his slow metabolism rate, even if he drank water he would end up putting on extra weight.

In a team that has never been known for physically fit players, Akmal was the only member to be dropped for the West Indies tour for lack of fitness. Akmal said that he and brother Kamran were unable to maintain their fitness because anything they ate would just contribute towards adding to their weight.

“Even if we only drink water, it increases our weight. Only our brother Adnan has a biological system which does not show his heavy diet on his body,” Akmal told Waqt News in an interview, reported Dawn.

"Believe me. over the last two days I have not eaten anything but have been on a BBQ diet. Along with that, I am only taking salads and water but even this shows on my body."

A Reddit user by the name of tiger1296 wrote, "Where it is true that some people do have the tendency to gain weight easier than others, drinking water won't do it unless he's literally drinking gallons a day. Just get off your lazy arse and lay off the Aloo cholay, maybe go for a jog. Annoying prick."

Akmal was hailed as the next star of Pakistan cricket when he made his debut in 2009, but eight years on he has not only failed to become a player he was expected to become, but has now lost his place in the team as well.
