India vs South Africa Women | Jhulan Goswami ruled out of T20I series due to heel injury

Jhulan Goswami will not be featuring in the upcoming five-match T20I series against South Africa women’s team after sustaining a heel injury. The Indian pacer has been advised to rest for two weeks and during that period she will consult a foot specialist before attending rehab session at the NCA.

After winning the three-match ODI series by a score of 2-1, the Indian women’s team faced a setback ahead of the T20I series after the medical team ruled Goswami out for the entire series. Given the first-ever standalone World T20 is scheduled to take place later this year, India are in search of some momentum ahead of the mega event and this series was seen as one. However, as it happened now, India will lose the services of their premier pacer for the much awaited tour.

"Ms Goswami suffered a heel injury and underwent an MRI scan on Monday, February 12, 2018. The BCCI Medical Team in consultation with a local doctor felt that she needs rest for a couple of weeks to avoid any further impact on the bone. Upon her return, Ms Goswami will consult a foot expert and will undergo her rehab process at the NCA in Bengaluru," a BCCI release stated.

During the ODI series, Jhulan reached the 200 ODI wicket mark and became the first woman to do so. Despite being rested for the third ODI, she was the second highest wicket-taker in the series after claiming five wickets in two games. With the help of the series win, India spotted on the second position of the ICC Women’s Championship.

The T20I series between India and South Africa women’s team will kick off today and the last match of the series will be played on February 24. After completing the tour, Indian women’s team will play against Australia in their own den, starting on March 12.
