The Committee of Administrators (CoA) led by Mr. Vinod Rai will re-examine the importance of the BCCI-made compulsory yo-yo test as to why it should be the only parameter for selection. Ambati Rayudu and Sanju Samson were both axed from the UK tour after they failed to pass the yo-yo test.

The BCCI and CoA just can’t seem to agree on anything over the last 10 months or so. From player contracts to excess expenditure, the Supreme Court appointed CoA, led by Mr. Vinod Rai, were not willing to leave any stone unturned in order to assert their dominance over one of the world’s richest sporting bodies - BCCI. In another apparent incident of contradictory opinions, the CoA has now questioned the BCCI’s increased emphasis on the compulsory ‘yo-yo test’ which has seen many players miss the cut for India matches. Rai will most likely ask BCCI why the yo-yo test should be the only fitness parameter for national selection as per TOI reports.

"Yes, the CoA chief is aware about the recent discussions. He hasn't interfered till now as it was a technical matter. But in the coming week, he plans to get a holistic information from head of Cricket Operations Saba Karim," a senior BCCI official, working with CoA told PTI.

Ambati Rayudu and Sanju Samson were the two casualties the yo-yo test claimed this year after Suresh Raina and Yuvraj Singh failed the test in 2017. The duo was dropped from the squad for the upcoming UK tour after they failed to clear their respective fitness tests’.

"Mr Rai is aware about the Rayudu and Sanju Samson case. He knows that there are contrarian views about how much importance should be given to the test. It's not decided but he might ask for a presentation from NCA trainers about this particular test," the official added.

BCCI treasurer Anirudh Chaudhry had also written a six-page letter to CoA, where he questioned the procedure of the yo-yo test becoming the main criteria for selection of the national squad.

"This raises serious questions about functioning of the selection process at the moment since a player who has done exceedingly well in the IPL against best of international bowling and thereafter attended NCA to work further on his strength and conditioning is selected and is then declared unfit and hence replaced.

"I would therefore like to know more details about the fitness tests and weightage that is given to every component of the fitness test. I would also like to know who has devised such weightage and who all were involved in the decision-making process of the same," Chaudhry wrote.
