Modern technology, from DRS to VAR technology, has been adapted in various different sports around the globe and based on recent reviews, the feedback has been a positive one. However, veteran umpire Ian Gould was left embarrassed after a West Indies DRS referral revealed his on-field error.
India registered an astounding 10-wicket win against West Indies in the second Test at Hyderabad, courtesy of another impressive performance from youngster Prithvi Shaw. Shaw, who was adjudged as man of the series after he scored an unbeaten 134 (1st Test), 70 and 33 not out (2nd Test), could have been dismissed earlier on in the innings but he got lucky.
Shaw had veteran umpire Ian Gould to thank for after the latterâs embarrassing error left West Indies skipper Jason Holder fuming in todayâs game. The English umpire gave Shaw not-out on a Holder short-pitch delivery that hit Shaw on his left arm. The West Indies captain immediately took the review and the replays showed the ball pitching in-line, impacting in-line and clipping the bails. Gould was caught on camera as he relayed a âsorryâ to the Caribbean all-rounder. Holder wasnât mad at Gouldâs mistake and smiled back at the umpire as the two got into a brief conversation.
