India's bowling coach Bharat Arun has stated that MS Dhoni is extremely experienced and added that the latter will eventually come good if provided with more opportunities. The former skipper was recently dropped from the Indian T20I squad for the series against Windies and Australia.

After the squads for the T20 series against Windies and Australia were announced, many cricket aficionados were in for a shock as former Indian captain MS Dhoni was dropped from the team. The reason cited by the selectors was that they are looking at the World T20 in 2019 and they don’t expect Dhoni to figure in that tournament. India’s bowling coach though seeks more time for the right hander to come back to form.

“His (Dhoni’s) striking ability is for everyone to see. He has done it many a times before. He is extremely experienced and I’m sure given the opportunities, he will come good,” Bharat Arun said during the press conference.

With a packed international schedule and the IPL, the Indian international players are some of the busiest ones around the globe. The coach said that with such schedule it is imperative to maintain a minimum entry bar to stay in the team.

“Fitness, with the kind of schedule that we have, is an important part of our focus. And the mark that we have kept for people to pass is not every tough. And anyone who is there in the team has to pass the fitness test,” Arun said.

In the ongoing ODI series against the Windies, the Indian team management had rested their two frontline bowlers in Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah. The coach said that in order to get through the hectic schedule they have to rotate their bowlers resourcefully and so they have to maintain a good bench strength too.

“When we started off, the onus was not only on creating a force to reckon with pace bowling unit for the Indian team we also we needed a very good bench strength. To sustain fast bowling over a long period of time, you need to rotate these fast bowlers,” he said.

In the recent ODI against Windies rookie bowler Khaleel Ahmed picked up three wickets for 13 runs which was also his career best. Citing his example the bowling coach commended the Indian pace bowling bench strength.

“India plays at least 60% more cricket than the rest of the world, and the workload has to be managed. We have a very good fast bowling quartet. And also, the bench strength is very exciting. Khaleel looks a very exciting prospect. He is sharp and has the skills to do well in international cricket,” the bowling coach added.
