At times, a moment of brilliance can even cost you and in extension, your team, if the effort that goes into it is not in sync. Today, Ravindra Jadeja’s direct hit took the stumps down, but the mishaps after that resulted in the Windies taking an extra run while there shouldn’t have been one.

In response to India’s 297, Windies started on an attacking note and John Campbell was at the centre of it. Dismissing him was the first on India’s agenda and before the team grew restless, they wanted to put relentless pressure on the Windies opener.

On the penultimate ball of the seventh over, Ishant Sharma banged in a short delivery against which Campbell went for a pull. Although the Jamaican had nailed the pull to perfection, it was not that easy to cross past Ravindra Jadeja at deep square leg. After collecting the ball, the Saurashtra man made a direct hit at the bowler's end but Campbell had already reached the crease.

As the ball deflected wide of cover, he wanted to take one more run, despite clearly knowing that Hanuma Vihari had come forward to field the delivery. Vihari made a throw instantly, being very aware that there was no one to back it up, and the ball missed the target by a mile. That gave Campbell an opportunity and he instantly ran to steal a second.
