India vs England women | Ekta Bisht special helps India beat England by 66 runs in series opener in Mumbai

The Indian women’s cricket team got off to a winning start in the home series against England as they defeated the three lions by 66 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Friday. Jemimah Rodrigues and Mithali Raj starred with the bat while Ekta Bisht weaved her magic with the ball for India.

Brief scores: India 202 in 49.4 overs (Jemimah Rodrigues 48, Mithali Raj 44; Sophie Ecclestone 2-27, Natalie Sciver 2-29) beat England 136 in 41 overs (Natalie Sciver 44, Heather Knight 39*; Ekta Bisht 4-25) by 66 runs.

The Mithali Raj-led India got off to a positive start in a crucial home series against England as they beat the latter by 66 runs at the Wankhede Stadium on Friday. The visitors won the toss and elected to bowl first and the Indian opening duo of Jemimah Rodrigues and Smriti Mandhana put up a strong partnership at the top before the latter was bowled for Georgia Elwiss.

However, Rodrigues continued to pile on as wickets kept falling at the other end. After the youngster’s dismissal, captain Mithali Raj rose to the task with a commendable 44 off 74 deliveries. A late flurry of shots from wicket-keeper Taniya Bhatia and the experienced Jhulan Goswami took India to a total of 202 from 49.4 deliveries.

The home team had an ‘okay’ total on the board but had to bowl according to plan if they wanted to beat the English ladies. It’s suffice to say, they did just that. India pacer, Shikha Pandey, struck early with the dismissal of Tammy Jones followed by that of Sarah Taylor. However, it was spin sensation Ekta Bisht who impressed and was adjudged as player of the match as she ended the day with figures 4/25.
