Every batsman always wants the fielder to drop their catch and it is extremely rare to see anyone walking off before it is taken cleanly. However, it seems like Alex Carey had a lot of confidence in Shikhar Dhawan as he walked back to the pavilion even before his edge could reach the Indian.

After losing the toss and being enforced to bowl first on a track that seems like a batting paradise, Indian bowlers did a good job of containing Australian batsmen in the powerplay. To release the pressure, Carey started looking for shots and was successful in sending a Mohammed Shami full ball to mid-wicket boundary. However, Carey’s confidence proved to be his own kryptonite in Shami’s next over.

On the fourth delivery of the 8th over, Carey attempted a pull shot against a short ball which landed on the off and skidded along the deck. However, the South Australian failed terribly in his pursuit as he ended up getting a top-edge on the ball as he was not in the proper position to play that shot.

Dhawan was stationed at short mid-wicket and positioned himself properly to grab the catch. But for few moments, it seemed like the ball was falling down in slow motion as the camera was fixed on Dhawan and the ball was still in the air. Carey though was all but sure that he was gone, and didn’t waste his time in the middle. As a matter of fact, Dhawan still hadn’t grabbed the catch.
