Runs in the death overs are always crucial and the joy behind getting a few extras here and there is just immense. India are reckoned as one of the best fielding sides in the tournament but a comedy of errors in the death overs saw them conceding two extras one after the other due to overthrows.

After a sluggish start, New Zealand were looking to accelerate and milk as many runs as possible in the death. Indian bowlers, on the other hand, were keeping things tight, not giving away free runs.

On the fourth delivery of the 46th over, a Jasprit Bumrah ball which tailed in took the leading edge of Ross Taylor, thus taking the ball to Yuzvendra Chahal at third man. MS Dhoni erred while collecting the throw as the ball bounced just in front of him, conceding an extra run but this was not all. Virat Kohli came in charging and decided to take a shy at the stumps but there wasn’t enough backing for the throw, which allowed both the batsman to come back for a third.

Kohli was livid with the whole effort as it cost India not one but two extra runs, which is atrocious at this level and in such a tense encounter. This is not something people associate Indian fielding with and the whole episode made up for a light moment for the Kiwi fans and a frustrating one for the Indians.
