Will take a decision on my future in the next couple of months, says Eoin Morgan
Eoin Morgan revealed that he is unsure as to where his future lies with the national team and will make a call on the same in the coming months. The 32-year old played an integral role as England laid their hands on a maiden World Cup title as they defeated New Zealand at Lordās last week.
England created history as they outplayed New Zealand in the super over of the recently concluded ICC World Cup 2019 held on home soil. A brilliant individual display from all-rounder Ben Stokes in the second innings followed by a nervy finish by young pacer Jofra Archer helped skipper Eoin Morgan lay his hands on a first-ever World Cup triumph for the three lions.
Morgan, who scored 371 runs from 11 games over the course of the tournament, revealed that he is yet to come to terms with whatever has happened in the last few weeks with the national team. The former Ireland cricketer added that he will make a call on his future in the coming months after consulting close friends and family.
āI donāt think Iām in a good state to make a decision at the moment, just simply that I havenāt had a chance to get away from the madness and the craze of winning the World Cup. Iāve not been able to get into a logical mindset and actually ask myself a couple of questions.
āItās taken a huge amount out of me, both mentally and physically, so once everything calms down over the next couple of months Iāll hopefully come to a decision that at the forefront of it will be my family and the team,ā 32-year old Morgan was quoted as saying by AFP sources.
England's win became controversialĀ after the team was declared winners on the basis of superior boundary count after the game remained tied even after the Super Over. Morgan also admitted that it was probably not fair.
āI donāt think itās fair to have a result like that when thereās very little between the sides. I donāt think there was one moment that you could say: āThat actually cost the game there.ā It was quite balanced. Iām black and white. Iām normally going: āI know. I was there, that happened.ā I canāt stick my finger on where the game was won and lost. Iām not sure winning it makes it any easier. It would be more difficult to lose, of course,ā he added.
