Reports | Mahmudullah in trouble after falling out with teammates
Bangladesh all-rounder Mahmudullah Riyad's time with the national team might be running out, as the veteran now finds himself in an isolated corner after falling out with the dressing room. This further adds to Mahmudullah's woes, after having failed to deliver for his team in the World Cup.
Be it the potential removal of Sarfaraz Ahmed from captaincy, or the Virat Kohli - Rohit Sharma rift, or now the Mahmudullah dressing room fallout, it does not seem to be a good time to be a sub-continent player in World Cricket right now. After having failed to perform in the World Cup, reports now suggest that Mahmudullah has had a fallout with players in the dressing room, and now finds himself in hot water post the fallout.
According to a Cricbuzz report, the rift began after Mahmudullah's inauspicious 41-ball 28 against England in the World Cup while chasing a high score, which apparently infuriated Shakib Al Hasan, who was fuming in the dressing room looking the approach of the 33-year-old.
"According to Shakib, Mahmudullah never showed any intent during the third game in the World Cup against England where he scored 41-ball 28 when Bangladesh probably needed around 190 runs from 20 overs. During that time inside the dressing room, everyone believed that the chase is very much possible but Mahmudullah's approach never seemed to be in pointing towards that direction and it was not taken very well by Shakib," a source close to the team was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.Â
It also being reported that Mahmudullah's attitude post his fifty against Australia in the World Cup has not gone well with several players, and this in turn has created a ruckus between himself and the rest of the players.
"Mahmudullah's behaviour inside the dressing room after his maiden fifty against Australia was simply shocking as he created scene over his teammates for not recognizing his effort by clapping him when he returned back,'' the source added.
With scores of 27, 29, 33, 3 and 6 in his last five innings, Mahmudullah has not helped his own cause, and by the looks of it, time might be running out for the veteran all-rounder, with Bangladesh set to undergo a mini-transition post the 2019 World Cup.
