ICC World Cup 2019 | Nathan Coulter-Nile warns Windies of short pitched deliveries

Australian pacer Nathan Coulter-Nile has warned West Indies of the short-pitched deliveries in their next assignment of the ongoing World Cup at Trent Bridge. West Indies used the short-pitched deliveries to perfection in their opening game against Pakistan as they folded the side for 105.

Australia have one of the finest pace attacks in the World Cup and did well in their opening game against Afghanistan. Windies, on the other hand, wreaked havoc against Pakistan, where they dismantled the Asian side for 105. Windies relied on good length and short-pitched deliveries against Pakistan and the surface provided immense help for them to do so.

Australia will take on Windies in their second game of the tournament at Trent Bridge on Thursday. Nathan Coulter-Nile has stated that Australia are all set to give Windies a taste of their own medicine and will make good use of the bouncers.

“You’ve got to give it (bowl bouncers) to the Windies, otherwise they just get on the front foot and pogo you everywhere. We’ll definitely give it to them – we give it to every team. You’ve got to use your two (permitted bouncers per over). The grounds are so small and the wickets are generally pretty flat, so you’ve got to use bouncers when you can,” Coulter-Nile said, reported PTI.

Chris Gayle has been in incredible form in recent times and wreaked havoc at the top. He scored a scintillating fifty against Pakistan to gain some momentum and will be the man to watch out for against Australia. Nathan Coulter-Nile said that Mitchell Starc can get the better of the southpaw.

“Oh Starcy (Mitchell Starc) will knock Gayle’s off pole out. It will be easy. You know he’s going to hit your good balls for four and hit your bad balls for six. Just keep as bowling as many good balls as you can we’ll stick a few up him. I think you just need to be aggressive at him. He’s still smacking them but he is getting older. I don’t know if he’s faced too much of Starcy and Paddy (Pat Cummins) recently but they’re bowling quick. So we’ll see how he handles that early,” Coulter-Nile added.
