ICC World Cup 2019 | I donât see why Mitchell starc and I canât play together, says Jason Behrendorff
Jason Behrendorff has stated that he canât see why Mitchell Starc and himself canât be putting in the hard yards together. The duo did well to run through Englandâs star-studded line-up and defend a under par total and be the first team to secure a semi-final spot with 12 points in their basket.
As what may come as a surprise move to many, Australia opted to play two left-arm seamers against the star-studded English attack and managed to defend a total of 286 which was certainly under par. The duo of Jason Behrendorff and Mitchell Starc wreaked havoc with the new ball and ensured Australia secured a semi-final spot.Â
There were doubts of playing the two left-arm seamers but Behrendorff has stated that he doesnât see any problem in Starc and himself putting the hard yards together. Starc bagged four wickets for 43 while his partner was the wrecker-in-chief with five scalps to his name for 44 runs.Â
âWe donât often see it, but I donât see why we canât play together. Sometimes you play three right-armers, so why canât we play two lefties? Mitch and I have different roles throughout the team, so itâs really good that we could partner together. Itâs something we thought was going to work well against England and then we picked up nine wickets between the two of us, so it potentially worked quite well!â Behrendorff said, reported PTI.
Behrendorff gets early movement with the ball while Starcâs prowess is well-known. Australia will only find themselves in much better situations if the two manage to pull their weight together and Behrendorff hopes to play alongside Starc more often in the matches to come.Â
âMitch and I are really happy to be able to play on the same team together and to have two lefties, hopefully we could see more of it. That would be great. One of those things you dream of as a kid is to play cricket for Australia and then to come here and play at Lordâs for the first time was something special. You donât play cricket for the accolades but to play at Lordâs and to take five wickets was really special,â he added.
