Rahul Dravid to take charge as head of National Cricket Academy on July 1
India U-19 coach Rahul Dravid will take charge of the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore on Monday, on a two-year contract. The former Indian skipper has previously thrived in coaching roles, having coached the Indian Under-19 team and also having served as a mentor for Delhi Daredevils.
Rahul Dravid has been handed over the responsibility of grooming the next generation of cricketers and chart out a roadmap for junior cricket, after being named the head of the National Cricket Academy. Dravid will take charge of the NCA at Bangalore on Monday on a two-year contract. Dravid will also spearhead the NCA’s rehabilitation programme for injured cricketers.
However, this will also mean that he will not be able to travel with the Indian Under-19 team and the India A teams, as the new role will mean that he would need to spend more time at NCA. Former India pacer Paras Mhambrey and Abhay Sharma will continue to remain a part of the junior team support staff.
“He will travel with India A and under-19 teams but not for the entirety of the tour. It is a much bigger responsibility and it will require him to spend more time at NCA than with the junior teams,” a Board of Control for Cricket in India official said after the Committee of Administrators meeting in New Delhi on Saturday. as reported by PTI.
“Mhambrey and Sharma will continue to be with A and under-19 team for now. Though we are looking to bolster the coaching staff,” the BCCI official added.
Dravid famously coached the India Under-19 team led by Prithvi Shaw, which won the ICC Under-19 World Cup in 2018.
