ICC World Cup 2019 | Itâs just a case of us creating our own legacy, says Jason Holder
West Indies skipper Jason Holder has said that there is no pressure on the team to re-establish their dominance but a case of them creating their own legacy. West Indies had won the first two editions of the World Cup, however, their run in recent times has rather been ordinary.
West Indies have a well-balanced side going into the World Cup and one can expect the budding side to spring some surprise in the quadrennial event. Windies have a good record at the World Cup as they have won the first two editions in 1975 and 1979, before being the runners-up in 1983, where they lost to India.Â
However, the same magic has been missing in the West Indies ODI side in the last few decades and their hopes of making an impact would be pinned on the upcoming World Cup. They did well against England recently, which should infuse immense momentum in them. Skipper Jason Holder cleared the air over any extra pressure being on the side to reinstate their dominance and said they want to create their own legacy. Â
âNot personally. Itâs just a case of us creating our own legacy. We obviously know our history what the past players have done. We will take it stage by stage, step by step, not get too far ahead of ourselves,â Holder said, reported ICC.
West Indies are growing as a unit in recent times and one just cannot write them off in such a mega event. Holder has said how the presence of few veterans like Andre Russell and Chris Gayle make the job easier for him.Â
âGuys like Andre Russell make it easy for me, they tend to give a lot of support. I canât thank them enough for the support they have given me, I know they continue to rally behind me. Itâs important for us to continue to build as a group. Itâs a relatively young side and we have got one or two experienced heads in the cam itâs a good mix," Holder added.
