Decided to retire due to disappointment with the way things were shaping up, reveals Ambati Rayudu
Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu, who recently came out of retirement, has revealed that he took the decision to retire in the first place due to his disappointment over the way things were panning out. He then went on to reveal that he changed his decision after realizing he'd made a mistake.
Ambati Rayudu the cricketer has never failed to capture the headlines in the past six months, although for the wrong reasons. First, after he was excluded from the World Cup squad, Rayudu posted a controversial "3D" tweet taking a dig at both the selectors and Vijay Shankar, the man who had taken his place. Soon after, the Hyderabadi cricketer announced his retirement from all forms of the game, leaving everyone puzzled and confused.
Then, almost two months after his "retirement", he took a massive u-turn and confirmed that he'll be playing both in the IPL and in the Indian domestic season. Now, the Indian cricketer has revealed that he announced his retirement due to his disappointment over the way things were panning out, stating that he went ahead with his gut feel. He also added that he does not regret taking that decision, despite it being considered a rash one by many.
"I was a bit disappointed with the way things were shaping up and also at that point of time, I had thought that it was time to move on with life," Rayudu told Times of India.
"I have always been a little impulsive in life but I am not regretting anything. Everybody cannot be the same. At that point of time I went with my gut feeling and acted accordingly," he added.
Having now come out of retirement, the 33-year-old revealed that he took the decision to come out of retirement after being made to realize that he had more cricket left in him. He also said that the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) team management and VVS Laxman brought about a kind of self-realization within him, with both parties being critical on him for the rash decision that he took.
"This is more of people helping me out in a situation like that. Helping me to realize that I have more cricket left in me. CSK management, Laxman bhai and Noel bhai were very critical of my decision and helped me realize a few things," he said.
Rayudu's first assignment on his comeback will be representing his side Hyderabad in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, which will kick off on September 24. The CSK man said that he was excited about his comeback to cricket while adding that his sole focus now will be performing well for Hyderabad.
"Obviously, I am really excited about this new phase in my life - playing for Hyderabad and also preparing for the IPL with CSK even though it is still several months to go. Right now I am excited and focused about playing for Hyderabad and doing well and taking the game forward,"
Having last played a match for India in March this year, Rayudu asserted that he is not currently eyeing a comeback and that he will look to enjoy his cricket more than anything else.
"Honestly, I haven't given it much thought right now," he said of making a comeback to the Indian team. I just want to go out on the field and do well and enjoy the game again," he added.
