Cristiano Ronaldo has claimed that he is confident of winning his fourth Ballon d'Or title completing a European double of the Champions League and the Euros in 2016. A win for Ronaldo would take him within a title of eternal rival Barcelona's Lionel Messi who has already won five.

Ronaldo has said that he is "rather confident and relaxed" about winning the Ballon d'Or for the 4th time following what he called the "best season of his career", winning his third Champions League title. Ronaldo, who has won the title in 2008, 2013 and 2014, is the obvious favourite to reclaim the crown after his 16 goals resulted in Real's 11th European crown.

The 30-year-old then followed the Champions League win with an unlikely victory at the 2016 Euros in France. The Real Madrid star was quoted by French outlet France Football saying that he felt confident ahead of the Euro final in Paris and "thought they were going to easily win". Ronaldo also claimed that he "smiled a lot" before the final that Portugal ended up winning 1-0 thanks to an Eder goal in extra time.

However, the game did not start the way Ronaldo would have dreamed as he was taken off the field after just 25 minutes following a clash of knees with Dimirti Payet. Ronaldo, who left the field of play with tears in his eyes, refers to the event as "the greatest sadness" of his career.

"I couldn't bend my leg... It wasn't going to be the final that I dreamed of, I could no longer play," recalled the 31-year-old.

The France Football interview has been headlined "Griezmann told me: 'I hate you'", but the magazine refused to give any further quotes before it is released on the news stands next week.
