Tottenham midfielder Victor Wanyama has opened up for the first time on his failed transfer in the summer transfer window. Victor Wanyama admitted he wanted out of the club in the summer and was close to leaving Spurs but in the end, no move materialised and he ended up staying at the club.

Tottenham outcast Victor Wanyama has spoken for the first time about the breakdown of his move to Club Brugge, reports Football London. Club Brugge were eager to add him to their team but they couldn’t match Spurs’ transfer fee demand. Wanyama has fallen well down the pecking order as the club signed Tanguay Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso in the summer. The Kenya international has been practically outcasted after new signing Tanguay Ndombele has excelled in the role.

Harry Winks too has impressed Mauricio Pochettino and that has seen him picked over Wanyama. Dele Alli, Moussa Sissoko, Christian Eriksen too can play in the middle of the park and 19-year-old academy midfielder Oliver Skipp is getting into matchday squads ahead of Wanyama. The former Celtic star lost Pochettino’s confidence and a place in the matchday squad after a string of recurring knee problems that kept him out for the majority of last season.

"For me, I am a professional player and sometimes you have to wait until everything is done. Things were good but unfortunately, the transfer didn't happen. But I have to put my head down and work hard in training to be back on top form. I will keep working and wait for my chance in the team,” Wanyama told All Africa.

The Kenya captain moved to Spurs from Southampton for a fee in the region of ÂŁ11 million in 2016 but with new players arriving this season, the midfielder has struggled to establish himself. So much so, that Wanyama has played just 23 minutes of Premier League football this season and got 90 minutes under his belt in the EFL Cup as Spurs lost at Colchester United on penalties.
