India drop a spot to 104th in the latest FIFA rankings

Igor Stimac’s men have dropped down a spot from 103rd to 104th in the September 2019 edition of the FIFA rankings which has come out a few days after their historic draw against Asian Champions Qatar. Belgium remains top of the rankings, while Germany’s slide continues following their 2014 triumph.

Igor Stimac's men last played against Oman and Qatar in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers after the July edition of the rankings were released. The Indian national team is ranked 104th in the September 2019 edition of the FIFA Rankings released on Thursday. Since the 2019 Intercontinental Cup in July, the Blue Tigers were last in action in the 2022 World Cup and 2023 AFC Asian Cup second round joint preliminary qualifiers for Group E.

While Qatar's ranking remains the same (62) following their 0-0 draw at the hands of India, Oman's 2-1 win has helped them gain three places to be ranked 84. The other two countries in the group Afghanistan (146) has gone up by three spots, despite a 6-0 defeat against Qatar, as they picked a 1-0 win over Bangladesh (187) who have gone down by five places.

Belgium maintained their no.1 spot in the FIFA World Rankings after an action-packed fortnight in international football which saw 78 friendlies, 74 continental qualifiers, and 60 FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 qualifiers take place. Germany fell one place to No 16 in the latest FIFA world rankings which means their slide in the rankings continues after their dismal 2018 World Cup. Meanwhile, Kosovo (119) have been rewarded for their valiant showing in UEFA EURO 2020 qualifying by reaching their best-ever position in the FIFA Ranking.
