A schoolboy from Bengaluru, Sohail Shah scripted history by completing a fine double in the MRF F1600 category’s third round at the MRF MMSC FMSCI National Car Racing Championship. Apart from him, VW Motorsport’s Ishaan Dodhiwala, a schoolboy from Hyderabad, also turned eyeballs with maiden title.

Alongside Dodhiwala, who won the two titles in the premier category at the MMRT track at Sriperumbudur near here Sunday, Shah got a glorious chance after his team-mate was disqualified. In quite a strange manner, Karthik Tharani committed a couple of infringements before he was subsequently banned for one race.

Bengaluru’s Rithvik Thomas (Race Concepts) also notched his third win of the season in the Super Stock category, while the other victors were Viswas Vijayaraj (DTS Racing) in the Formula LGB 1300 race and Mumbai’s Saurav Bandyopadhyay, who won in the Volkswagen Ameo Class.

The saloon car race saw drama as Tharani’s disqualification and the following ban would take effect for the next round of the championship, which has been scheduled for August 16-18. With Dodhiwala being declared as the winner, Nikanth Ram (ARKA Motorsports) and Arjun Balu (Race Concepts) followed him in the subsequent positions.

“The competitor was called to give the explanation as to why he ignored the ‘drive through’ penalty board for five laps and ignored the ‘black flag’ for the remaining three laps of the race,” said the stewards, after the ITC race hearing with Tharani, reported Sportstar.

“In view of the fact that the competitor is a highly experienced driver and he is also a driver-trainer, the stewards were of the opinion that exemplary sanctions should be imposed on this driver and a sentence of not being permitted a start in the next race of this championship (one race only),” he added.

Ireland’s Lucca Allen also completed a double by winning both the Formula 4 SEA races after his poor outings in Saturday’s double-header.
