Don’t need 100 games to spot talent, 3-4 games are fine, says Isac Doru
AIFF technical director Isac Doru has claimed that one doesn’t need 100 games to spot the right talent, but with the right eye, three or four games should be enough to hand pick a special player. He also revealed that Indian football academies have started working to the new concept of playing.
Igor Stimac has self-admittedly found his perfect eleven that could be expected to make a difference in the FIFA World Cup Asia qualifiers. However, Doru has been of the opinion that the national team would still be needing upgrades in certain positions that he has been communicated.
However, he also mentioned that it wasn’t his job to find them and neither should anyone else take an extreme amount of time to spot talent.Â
“As a technical director, I’m not doing the scouting for the Senior National Team but am overseeing teams across all age-groups. In terms of the Senior team, we have had discussions – and we are on the same page. Currently, we’re concerned about the overall development of the team besides plugging in certain areas. A proper number 9, number 10 and number 6 are required at this moment to work on further,” said Doru, reported Mumbai Mirror.
“You don’t need 100 games to spot talent. If you have an eye, 3-4 games are fine. The quality and not the quantity of games are important,” he added.
The Indian team has seen a change in their playing style from what they were playing under Stephen Constantine with the players playing a more positive style of football. And Doru has stated that while a lot of things need to fall into place, he has asked top academies to fall in line with the decided concept of playing.
“We need to work on a particular concept of playing. The planning and training follows, and according to the concept, which must be aligned to the individual development of players. It requires a lot of work to fall into the system. The positive step is that a few academies have already started working towards it, as they have good training facilities. The AIFF has started the Sub-junior league besides Junior and Elite league which is another positive step,” he added.
