Seema Punia and Navjeet Dhillon have added to India’s impressive performance on Day 8 of the Gold Coast CWG 2018 by winning silver and bronze respectively in the Women's Discus Throw final. Australia’s Dani Stevens broke the Games record with a throw of 68.36m to take the Gold medal home.

After the magic of Indian wrestlers today, discus throwers decided not to stay far behind and secured two medals in the Women's Discus Throw event. Both Punia and Dhillon were impressive throughout and the former started with a 60.41m throw and although that was not better than the Australian, she surely created a chance to win a medal.

However, she failed to better that performance in her following attempt, and the Aussie kept on throwing longer distance as well, which made it all but clear that the Gold medal was no more a valid proposition. However, a silver at CWG is no mean achievement and Punia gave her all to better her previous attempt to steer clear of most opponents.

Although she couldn’t better her performance of 60.41m, none came close to her and she stood second on the table with Dhillon, who threw it for 57.43 m to secure the third position. The two medals took India’s medal tally to 31 at the Gold Coast Games.
