Asian games 2018| Haryana govt announces rewards for Bajrang Punia , Vinesh Phogat and Lakshya Sheoran
Haryana Sports Minister Anil Vij, on Monday, has announced huge cash rewards for wrestlers Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat and shooter Lakshya Sheoran. While Phogat and Punia won a Gold medal in wrestling, Sheoran managed to win a men's trap event silver for the first time in his career.
Bajrang Punia’s rising stature as the flag-bearer of Indian wrestling received a tremendous boost when he won India’s first gold medal at the Asian Games in Jakarta on Sunday night. The 24-year-old’s gold-winning feat in the 65kg class was the potion that the Indian contingent needed on a day when Sushil Kumar suffered the ignominy of a first-round exit in the 74kg category.Â
Vinesh Phogat played the 50 kg weight category freestyle wrestling final against Japan's Yuki Irie and registered the second gold medal for India. Vinesh beat her fellow Japanese opponent by a score of 6-2. This is the first time at the Asian games that an Indian woman wrestler has won a gold medal.Â
Indian teenager shooter Lakshay Sheoran clinched the silver medal in the men’s trap event at the ongoing Asian Games on Monday with brilliant marksmanship in both the qualification and finals. Lakshay became just the third Indian after Karni Singh (1974) and Manavjit Singh Sandhu (2006) to win the men's trap silver at the Asian Games. The 19-year-old aggregated 43 in the gold-medal match.Â
Haryana Sports Minister Anil Vij on Monday announced huge cash rewards of 3 crore rupees each for wrestlers Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat, who secured gold medals in their respective events at the ongoing Asian Games in Indonesia. The minister also announced a cash reward of Rs 1.5 crore for Lakshya Sheoran, who bagged a silver medal in men’s trap event.
