Saina Nehwal overcame China’s Chen Xiaoxin 21-12, 21-18 while PV Sindhu cruised past Malaysia’s Goh Jin Wei 21-12, 21-9 to set up an all-Indian quarter final in the Indonesian Masters. In other game, men's doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty progressed into the quarter-finals.

Saina and Sindhu have clashed just twice in the international circuit so far, with both winning once. While the 2014 Syed Modi Grand Prix Gold faceoff saw Saina defeating Sindhu, the youngster returned the favour at the India Open Super Series last year. Saina, however, got the better of Sindhu as she clinched the women's singles title in the Senior National Badminton Championship last year.

The celebrated shuttlers were scheduled to meet in the Premier Badminton League opener between Awadhe Warriors and Chennai Smashers earlier this year, but Saina pulled out due to an ankle injury.

Returning from an ankle injury, Saina made a positive start to the new season as she edged past China’s Chen Yufei in a thrilling opening round match. The struggling shuttler had to dig deep into her reservoir to eke out a 22-24, 21-15, 21-14 win over world No.7 Chen in a match that lasted an hour and nine minutes.

Second seed Sindhu, on the other hand, ousted local favourite Hanna Ramadini 21-13, 21-10 in 34 minutes to comfortably make her way through to the next round, where she would face Malaysian qualifier Goh Jin Wei.

The men's doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty too entered the quarter-finals after getting past Chinese Taipei's Liao Min Chun and Su Ching-Heng 21-17, 21-16 in the second round.
