English opener Haseeb Hameed has praised Indian skipper Virat Kohli for giving him time and advice, after the third Test between India and England. The Indian-born batsman had made a gutsy 59 not out in the second innings of the third Test with an injured finger although England lost the match.

19-year old Hameed, who topped the run-scoring charts for Lancashire in the County Championship, made a memorable debut against India by scoring a patient 82 in the first Test, which earned him plaudits from all quarters.

But the most striking aspect of his character was seen when he came out to bat in the second innings of the third Test, despite suffering a severe finger injury in the first innings. He made a well-compiled unbeaten 59 runs but failed to rescue his side from the ignominy of an eight-wicket loss.

Moved by the bravery, Indian skipper Virat Kohli had congratulated him after the match and sat down to discuss his cricket in the dressing room. The young opener seemed all ears to the Indian skipper.

After returning to London to consult specialists, Haseeb went on to describe the meeting as "a great moment for him as well."

He added that he was grateful to Kohli for sparing time for him right after the hosts completed the win.
