PCB propose to take BCCI to court

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) propose to take legal action against the BCCI for failing to honour the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two boards signed in 2014, and have got the nod from their Board of Governors (BoG) for adopting legal recourse.

The PCB had backed the Big Three take-over of world cricket in 2014, and in return the BCCI had promised to play six bilateral series until 2021. However, the dates of two series have gone by, the political situation between the two countries making it impossible to play.

PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan said the legal recourse would also involve the International Cricket Council (ICC), as they were also a party to the agreement.

“The BoG has authorised us to take legal route against BCCI for not honouring the MoU and ask for compensation as they have not played two series so far,” Khan was quoted as saying by PTI news agency.

“We will include the ICC as well, because it was signed in their presence and they are a party in it. We backed the Big Three after getting assurances that we will get gains through these bilateral series.”

Senior PCB official Najam Sethi said they will move court in England if BCCI does not keep their promise.

“The BCCI will have to formally reply to us whether they will play or not because we will then file a case against them in England. PCB was expecting to earn roughly $150-200m from our four home series, so we’re talking about significant losses,” Sethi said.
