IPL 2016: Yusuf Pathan refutes Gavaskar's 'Popatwadi' comment on RCB bowling
In a sporting gesture, KKR all-rounder Yusuf Pathan has defended Royal Challengers Bangalore's bowling attack after Sunil Gavaskar's called it a 'popatwadi attack'. The former Indian international made the comment after RCB failed to defend 184, despite having KKR on the ropes at 69/4 on Monday.
It has been been a repeat of the same storyline for RCB this season so far. Their batsmen, Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers in particular, have delivered in every game, while their bowlers have invariably let them down. RCB's bowling attack has drawn a lot of criticism, and Sunil Gavaskar joined in on the act on Monday. However Yusuf Pathan, who played a match-winning knock of 60 against RCB, did not agree with Gavaskar's views.
"Any team playing, or for that matter any batting lineup, and especially any bowling lineup, cannot be called Popatwadi Attack, when teams are participating in big tournaments as IPL," Pathan had said after the match.
Pathan went on to point out the likes of Varun Aaron and Shane Watson, who have gained international experience based on their performances over the years, to put his point across.
"It is his viewpoint and his perception. Whatever he said, it is according to his understanding. But look at Varun Aaron and Shane Watson, they both have represented their country for their achievements," Pathan added.
