Haseeb Hameed to miss rest of India tour with fractured finger

The 19-year-old has had an impressive debut series so far. He had scored 31 and 82 in the first Test at Rajkot, and was unlucky to be run out in the first innings at Visakhapatnam after a poor call from Joe Root. In the second innings of the third Test, Hameed battled the pain on his fractured finger to bat at no. 8 and remained unbeaten at 59. The youngster’s technique and temperament has drawn praise from all quarters and only Virat Kohli has faced more deliveries than him in this series so far.

However, his India tour has been cut short by the injury on his left little finger, where he has been struck both during the second Test and the third Test. Hameed will now head home leaving England looking for potential replacements for him. Middlesex’s Nick Gubbins, Durham’s Keaton Jennings, Kent’s Daniel Bell-Drummond, and Essex’s Tom Westley appear to be in the running for the opener's slot for the next two Tests of the series.
