Ravi Shastri analyses Virat Kohli’s recent form
Ex-Indian captain Ravi Shastri has claimed that Virat Kohli would be disappointed with his shot-selection in his last few innings. Kohli, who played under Shastri, when he was the Indian team’s Director, has had a tough couple of months with performances dropping from his usual lofty standards.
While speaking during the lunch break on day 1 of the second test in Kolkata, Shastri said, “I think he(Kohli) will be disappointed with his shot selection in the last few innings. He has played shots which he could have avoided,” reported IANS.
Kohli has been struggling to impose himself on matches scoring just 87 runs in his last six innings, posting scores of 44, 3, 4, 9, 18 and 9 since his maiden Test double hundred against the West Indies in July.
The 27-year-old had hit a purple patch in his career during the World Cup T20 where he almost single-handedly led India to the semifinals. His golden run continued on to the Indian Premier League where the Royal Challengers Bangalore captain scored an incredible 973 runs at an average of 81.08.
When quizzed about Kohli’s recent form and style of play, Shastri added, “It can also be the other way round. If you're out of form, you tend to get on quickly. You look for boundaries to build your confidence and search for a boundary early on.”
Bowlers have been claiming Kohli’s wicket in a number of different ways as the Indian skipper has been dismissed on the short ball, half volleys, driving and even sweeping. How long he struggles remains to be seen, but one can be sure the Indian Captain will be back – sooner rather than later.
