The first T20 of the series was memorable for Glen Maxwell as he scored his debut T20I century and also on the course broke few more records. Australia also broke Sri Lanka's 9 year old record for most runs in a T20 Innings. Here is the list of few records which were broken.

1 – Glenn Maxwell became the first to score a century in his maiden T20I innings as an opener. The previous best was 96 by fellow Australian Damien Martyn against South Africa in Brisbane in 2006.

2 – Glen Maxwell now holds the record for the second-highest score in T20Is. Aaron Finch's 156 against England in 2013 is the highest score in T20 Internationals.

3 - The top 3 T20I highest scores belong to Australians. Aaron Finch (156), Glen Maxwell (145*) and Shane Watson (124*) are in the top-three list.

3 –The highest number of T20I centuries scored in any single ground - Pallekele holds the honor. Johannesburg, Dharamsala, and Lauderhill have seen two International T20 centuries.

3 – This was only the third time that there have been 50-run parternships for the first three wickets in T20Is. The previous two instances were both by India - against Sri Lanka in Mohali (2009) and West Indies in Lauderhill (2016) .

3 - Australia have won only 3 T20Is against Sri Lanka in 9 matches.

9 - A total of 9 sixes were hit by Glen Maxwell which is the second-most by an Australia batsman. Aaron Finch hit 14 sixes in that 156-run innings which is the most by an Australian. However, Glen Maxwell's 9 sixes are the most by a batsman against Sri Lanka, surpassing Colin Munro of New Zealand.

12 – The highest number of T20s lost by any team in a calendar year. Sri Lanka have lost 12 T20Is out of 15 in 2016 and join Pakistan, who had lost 12 T20Is in 2012.

12 - Number of T20I 100s by batsmen coming in at number 1 position. There have 6,4 and 1 hundreds from batsmen at number 2,3 and 4 positon respectively.

18 – Maxwell’s hundred was the 18th century scored by an opener in T20Is.

23 - This is the 23rd T20I century, the first of it coming in 2007.

In 2016, there have been 8 centuries so far, and with a few more T20 Internationals left, the number could go up further more.

49 – Maxwell’s century came off just 48 balls. Only 5 batsmen have hit a century in fewer balls, and he is in the sixth position in the list of fastest T20I hundreds.

85 – Sri Lanka’s loss by 85 runs is their biggest in T20Is, beating their 6-year old record of a 81-run defeat against Australia in 2010.

153 – Glenn Maxwell took 153 innings to register his maiden T20 century (across club and country). Virat Kohli took 181 innings and Andre Russell took 180 innings to reach their maiden T20 century making them the only two players to take longer than Maxwell.

178 – This is the second-highest score by Sri Lanka while chasing in a T20I. Their best though is 179 against New Zealand.

263 – Australia’s total is the highest in a T20I beating Sri Lanka’s record of 260/6 against Kenya in 2007. Australia’s previous-highest total was 248/6 against England in 2013.

Now the highest totals in Tests, ODIs and T20Is have been conceded by the three sub-continental teams, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, respectively.
