Eden Gardens is changing – The Sourav Ganguly stand and a Lord's-like bell
The historic Eden Gardens stadium in Kolkata is likely to undergo a few significant changes in the upcoming days. A couple of stands are likely to be named after CAB president Sourav Ganguly and former BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya, while a Lord's like bell is also likely to be installed.
"This was discussed in the meeting. Nothing is finalised yet. The office bearers will take a call," CAB Treasurer Biswaroop Dey told IANS.
"I proposed the name of Pankaj Roy and Sourav Ganguly. This was (Jagmohan) Dalmiya's wish that stands are made on their names," he added.
The decision to name the stands was taken in the association's working committee meeting held yesterday where former cricketer Pankaj Roy and former CAB presidents B.N. Dutt, A.N. Ghosh, Snehasnshu Acharya, and Sidhartha Shankar Ray's names were also suggested for naming the stands.
In another significant change, Sourav Ganguly has confirmed that a bell, like the one at the Lord's, will be installed at the ground, and it will be rung by a cricketer from either side or ex-players at the start of play every morning. The one at Lord's is located outside the Bowlers' Bar of the pavilion and is rung to indicate start of play. Ganguly has had the privilege of ringing the hallowed bell at Lord's on the fifth morning of a Test match in 2014.
"The bell will be installed soon," CAB president Sourav Ganguly said, reported IANS.
CAB ground committee chairman Debabrata Das has revealed that the bell will be in place later this month. He said, "The bell has been brought from Chandigarh. It is made of brass. There will be silver coating done on top it and will be in place by 25th or 26th of this month."
The working committee has also decided to reduce the ticket prices for Test matches. Previously, the maximum price of a Test ticket was Rs 1,500, but the new tickets denominations will be Rs 1,000, Rs 750 and Rs 500.
