I have to play a little bit more of red-ball cricket, says Yuzvendra Chahal
Yuzvendra Chahal, who is currently playing red-ball cricket against South Africa A from India A team, has said that he needs to play more red-ball cricket for preparing himself for the main Test squad. The Indian team management will be considering Chahal as well in the Test series against England.
Playing against South Africa A, Chahal has decently to take four wickets in the two matches so far. But, the wrist spinner has also stated that that playing after an interval of two years, he would need to warm up to this format. He has also been of the opinion that playing in the Test format gets you developed for the other formats as well.
“I have to play a little bit more of red-ball cricket, that’s why the selectors sent me here. Two years is a long gap and here, you need to keep yourself fit too to bowl long spells. Bowling a good delivery and getting a wicket off a good delivery are two different things and you need the latter. The more I play, the more mature I will get in this format,” Chahal told the Hindu.
“If you are playing Test matches, your bowling will improve and your mind will get sharper. You need to adjust and think how you can get a batsman out, especially on wickets where there is no turn,” he added.
Kuldeep Yadav has already made an appearance in the second Test at Lord's. With the squad for the last two Tests still unannounced, Yuzvendra Chahal is reportedly being considered by the Indian Team Management. However, Chahal isn' focusing much on that at the moment.
“I am just focused on this tournament. If I am not selected, then there is Asia Cup for which I will be preparing. It is tough and we knew it is going swing a lot. But it is not that India can’t turn it around. There are three more Tests so there are chances of a comeback,” he said.
Leg-spinner from Haryana, Yuzvendra Chahal had displayed an outstanding first class performance against Jharkhand in the quarter-finals of the Ranji Trophy in 2016. However, he had to miss the last domestic season because of work pressure he received internationally.
