Ravi Shastri has been impressed by the pace at which Prithvi Shaw has recovered from the ankle injury which he suffered during the match against Cricket Australia XI. Shastri reckons that the Indian management will take a call on Shaw’s condition ahead of the second Test at Perth on December 14.

Reports on Wednesday suggested that 19-year old Indian batsman, Prithvi Shaw, would enjoy an extended stay on the sidelines as he continues rehabilitation on the ankle injury he picked up last week. However, India’s head coach, Ravi Shastri, had some good news for Indian fans as he revealed that he expects Shaw to return to total fitness as early as this weekend.

"It was really unfortunate,. In fact, we all were looking forward for him to play. It's always exciting when you have an 18-year-old kid who has come up the ranks, who has got runs in all formats for the game when he's played back home. It was heartbreaking to see him go down the way he did but the good thing is he is recovering quickly. He's already started walking. Hopefully if we can get him to him run a bit by the weekend, that's a really good sign," Shastri told ESPNCricinfo.

Shaw is on his first tour to Australia it was unfortunate that he picked up the injury during the warm-up game against Cricket Australia XI. Shastri added that the Indian management along with captain Virat Kohli will take a call on Shaw’s condition ahead of the second Test match against Australia which will be played in Perth on December 14.

"I would imagine so but you never know. He's young. Sometimes different people recover differently. With youth on his side, there might just be a case where he might recover quicker. We'll take a call as and when we get closer to Perth [for the second Test on December 14]," Shastri added.

Prior to the trip to Australia, Shaw enjoyed a fairytale debut for the senior team as he was adjudged man of the series in the two-match showdown against Windies at home.
