Matthew Hayden has come forward with his verdict and has stated that India will clinch the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as the visitors have a well-settled bowling unit and just need to improve their batting. The series currently stands at 1-1 with both India and Australia winning a match apiece.

Injuries have hampered the Indian side and a recent loss at their back the Indian side has given the visitors a lot to think about going into the third Test of the series scheduled to begin at the MCG on Boxing Day. But a clear voice in former Australian opener Matthew Hayden has come out and unambiguously stated that he still backs the Indian side to lift the series.

“I think India should clinch the series. Why? Because, they have a balanced side, an extremely settled bowling unit, and depth in spin,” Hayden was quoted as saying by Mumbai Mirror.

Prithvi Shaw was sent home due to the ankle injury, he sustained during the lone practice game in Australia, that failed to heal. Then India’s two frontline spinners in Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja are already injured and their inclusion in the third match will be taken before the match.

“It is hard to win away from home and this will prove to be no different. But India should win, they really are the favourites, they need good partnerships, which they have not had,” he added.

India won the first match of the series by 31 runs before losing the second by 146. The third match of the series is scheduled to start on December 26 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The only good news for India at this stage is that Hardik Pandya will be available for selection for the boxing day Test.
