Pakistan bowler Mohammad Amir has decided to return to domestic cricket, so that he can regain his bowling strength, after a disastrous Asia Cup campaign. A left-arm pacer, Amir will be joining his department Sui Southern Gas Corporation (SSGC), coached by Atiq-uz-Zaman for the domestic season.

Amir has been going through a terrible run of form for quite a while now and not even close to a bowler he was before the spot-fixing ban. And the terrible performance in the Asia Cup was the last nail in the coffin for Amir as he has been made to rest for the two-match Test series against Australia, which has been scheduled to be played in Dubai from October 7. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) mentioned that they had taken into consideration the conditions of UAE to come up with this decision. Amir has, for the time being, decided to immerse himself into domestic cricket to rediscover his bowling rhythm. Coach Atiq-uz-Zaman has been pleased with the course of actions.

“I am pleased to inform you that Mohammad Amir will be representing SSGC in the current season and we'll do our best to help him getting his rhythm and form back,” Atiq-uz-Zaman tweeted.

Amir has picked up three wickets in the 10 matches he has played recently. He could not pick a single wicket in the recently concluded Asia Cup, his last wicket being against Zimbabwe on July 13. He could only play three matches in Asia Cup, one against Hong Kong and two against India. He had to sit out in the matches against Afghanistan and Bangladesh after Pakistan Skipper Sarfraz Ahmed and coach Mickey Arthur picked up on his poor form as he gave away 84 runs in 18 overs.

The workload management, however, is going to be an issue as Quaid-e-Azam Trophy and Quaid-e-Azam One Day Cup will be held simultaneously, with the teams playing a four-day match and one day match in one go, before they receive a two-day rest.
