IPL 2019 | Conflict of interest baseless as no financial interest in Delhi Capitals, says Sourav Ganguly
Sourav Ganguly has conveyed to the BCCI Ombudsman Justice (Retd) DK Jain that he does not receive any financial remuneration for his advisory role in the Indian Premier League franchise Delhi Capitals. On the basis of this, he has claimed that there is no conflict of interest whatsoever.
Sourav Ganguly, who presides the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) and is also a member of the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), had signed up as the advisor of the Indian Premier League franchise Delhi Capitals, with all due permissions. However, this had cooked up a huge storm after three Kolkata fans had alleged conflict of interest with respect to his dual role.
Since then, there have been a number of developments, but as per the latest one, the former Indian captain has communicated to the BCCI Ombudsman and Ethics Officer DK Jain that he does not get paid for his advisory role, and thereby, has no conflict of interest, reported TNN.
The former Indian skipper further went to claim that he is not getting paid for the other two roles in the CAB and CAC as well. Hence, he requested Jain to allow him to continue with his role in the Delhi based franchise, which is co-owned by the JSW group, who shares close relations with Ganguly.
It is also to be noted that VVS Laxman, the Sunrisers Hyderabad mentor, and Sachin Tendulkar, the Mumbai Indians mentor are the other two members of the CAC. Jain’s verdict might have an impact on Laxman and Sachin’s role as well.
The CAC last met way back in 2017, in order to appoint Ravi Shastri as the coach of the Indian team. Shastri's contract ends with the upcoming World Cup, and the committee is expected to meet again in order to pick the next coach.
