International Cricket Council (ICC) Chairman Shashank Manohar wants to step down from his post from June 2020. He expressed his unwillingness to continue despite majority in Board of directors' wish to see him continue as chairman, name of his successor will be disclosed in May 2020.

Current International Cricket Council (ICC) Chairman Shashank Manohar expressed his desire of not continuing for another term despite the majority of directors’ wish for him to continue.

Manohar was first elected as ICC’s Chairman in May 2016. He became the first independent ICC chairman. He was then re-elected for a two-year term in 2018. In his tenure, there have been instances that ICC’s decision has not gone in good terms with BCCI and there have been clear differences amongst the two boards. Differences regarding approval from ICC for domestic tournaments did not go well with BCCI and there were public remarks for the same.

"I am not interested in continuing for another two-year term. The majority of directors have requested me to continue but I have told them that I do not wish to do so,” he told, reported The Hindu.

In ICC’s board meeting, it saw the formation of a working group led by Cricket Australia's Earl Eddings with zero representation from India and that shocked BCCI officials. In fact, the proposed Future Tours Programme (FTP) of the ICC is another area of concern as it calls for a World T20 every year and a 50-over World Cup every three years. The BCCI along with Cricket Australia and the England and Wales Cricket Board has opposed the proposal.

With BCCI Secretary Jay Shah representing BCCI in ICC's CEC meets, it will interesting to see how BCCI reinforces its voice in the ICC after Manohar part his ties.
