Indian greats question ICC’s boundary-count rule after Super Over tie declares England winner
The likes of Rohit Sharma, Yuvraj Singh and Gautam Gambhir openly criticised the boundary count rule with tournament top-scorer Rohit Sharma asking the ICC for a “serious look” into the rule. Gambhir has stated that the match should have ended in a tie and the cup should have been tied.
In what can easily be the greatest ODI ever played, England were declared the winners on the basis of their superior boundary count – 22 fours and two sixes – to New Zealand’s 16 after the epic final, and also the ensuing Super Over, ended in a tie. That led to New Zealand’s heartfelt and sharing the pain, fellow cricketers took a stand with them.
“Some rules in cricket definitely needs (sic) a serious look in,” tweeted Sharma on Monday.

Former India opener Gautam Gambhir, who is very vocal about his assessment, criticised the International Cricket Council for the “ridiculous” rule and stated that the game should have been a tie.
“Don’t understand how the game of such proportions, the #CWC19Final, is finally decided on who scored the most boundaries. A ridiculous rule @ICC. Should have been a tie. I want to congratulate both @BLACKCAPS & @englandcricket on playing out a nail biting Final,” Gambhir wrote on his twitter handle.

Yuvraj Singh also disagreed with the rule but congratulated the World Champions for winning the trophy which evaded them multiple times in the past.
“I don’t agree with that rule ! But rules are rules congratulations to England on finally winning the World Cup, my heart goes out for the kiwis they fought till the end. Great game an epic final !!!! #CWC19Final,” he wrote.
