A good captain leads by example and often strives to put his teammates before himself in crunch situations. India captain Virat Kohli did just that as he helped prevent a run-out that saw Shikhar Dhawan score his 17th ODI century in the epic 36-run win against Australia at the Oval on Sunday.

Virat Kohli-led India registered back-to-back wins in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019 as they comprehensively outplayed defending champions Australia by 36 runs at the Kennington Oval in London on Sunday. Shikhar Dhawan starred with the bat as he scored his 17th ODI century while Virat Kohli (82) and Rohit Sharma (57) also made valuable contributions at the top order.

However, things could have gone very differently for Dhawan when he was batting at 99 with skipper Virat Kohli at the non-striker’s end in the 33rd over being bowled by Marcus Stoinis.  Dhawan was eager to reach the 100-run mark and drove a fullish delivery to mid-off on the fourth ball of the over.

Ironically, Kohli looked to be more in a rush to take the single and help his batting partner reach a century but a throw came in from the fielder at mid-off to the bowler's end that forced the Indian captain to put in a dive in order to prevent a run-out. The direct-hit ricochets away and the batsmen completed the run which brought up Dhawan’s third century at the Oval.
