Chennai Super Kings returned to winning ways as they beat Kolkata Knight Riders by seven wickets. KKR faced difficulties with the bat as Ravindra Jadeja managed to scalp three important wickets while the hosts chased the modest target of 138 comfortably courtesy of Ruturaj Gaikwad’s 67 off 58 balls.

‌Chennai Super Kings returned to their stronghold after suffering two consecutive defeats, with skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad winning the toss and opting to field first. The yellow-clad team made an impressive start when their young paceman Tushar Deshpande dismissed Kolkata's opener Phil Salt with the very first delivery of the innings. However, Sunil Narine and Angkrish Raghuvanshi steadied the ship for KKR by guiding their team to 56/1 by the end of the powerplay. Yet, the tide turned when Ravindra Jadeja removed the well-set Narine and Raghuvanshi in the seventh over. The 35-year-old spinner struck again in the ninth over, dismissing Venkatesh Iyer with the scorecard at 64/4. With KKR captain Shreyas Iyer and Ramandeep Singh at the crease, the visitors reached 70/4 after 10 overs. However, KKR faced another blow as Ramandeep Singh fell victim to Maheesh Theekshana in the 12th over. The KKR batsmen struggled to accelerate with Iyer and Rinku Singh guiding their team to 94/5 after 14 overs. Another setback followed as Rinku departed in the 17th over leaving the scorecard at 113/6. Unfortunately for KKR, despite their promising start, they couldn't regain momentum losing wickets of Russell, Iyer, and Anukul Roy, ultimately posting a modest total of 137/9 in their allotted 20 overs.

The home team started well as their opening pair of Rachin Ravindra and Ruturaj Gaikwad guided them to 26/0 in three overs. However, Kolkata broke through in the fourth over with Vaibhav Arora dismissing Rachin. Despite this setback, Daryl Mitchell and Gaikwad took the Super Kings to 52/1 by the end of the powerplay. Their partnership flourished, adding 62 runs and pushing the score to 89/1 after 11 overs. Meanwhile, Ruturaj looked good with the bat as he elegantly notched up his first fifty of the season in just 25 deliveries. The momentum appeared to be firmly in Chennai's favour until KKR's spin wizard Sunil Narine removed Mitchell in the 13th over with the scorecard at 99/2. Shivam Dube joined Gaikwad, and together they guided Chennai to 115/2 by the 15th over, needing only 23 runs from the last five overs as Dube's brisk cameo of 28 runs off 18 balls added impetus to their chase. However, his departure in the 17th over with just three runs needed brought MS Dhoni to the crease much to the delight of the Chepauk crowd. With victory almost assured, Ruturaj Gaikwad sealed the deal with a boundary in the 18th over, securing a clinical win for Chennai with 14 balls to spare.
