âWomenâs Hundred | Twitter reacts to Perry masterclass assist Phoenix break twelve-match losing streak
Birmingham Phoenix end their twelve-match losing streak in the Womenâs Hundred history by defeating Trent Rockets by a couple of runs. Ellyse Perryâs blistering fifty eclipsed Nat Sciver-Bruntâs half-century and Heather Grahamâs quickfire as the Phoenix managed to pull the defense in a humdinger.
Birmingham Phoenix Women won the toss and elected to field first before Sterre Kalis and Sophie Devine started slowly inside the 25-ball powerplay. With 32 runs on board, Alana King trapped the New Zealand all-rounder in front at the cusp of the seventh set. Sterre Kallis and Ellyse Perry tried to extend the innings further and the latter found boundaries now and then. While Kalis tried to play second fiddle, Perry reached a 27-ball fifty with a boundary steering the side to 112/1 by the 85th ball. The Phoenix added 27 runs in the last fifteen balls despite losing two wickets with Perry tonking the bowlers all around the park. She remained unbridled at 66 off 34 balls, steering Birmingham to 138/3 in 100 balls.Â
In reply, Bryony Smith and Grace Scriverns failed to forge a decent opening stand with the latter departing for six in the last set of the powerplay. However, Nat Sciver-Brunt steadied the ship with her measured approach, nurdling the gaps and fetching regular boundaries. While Smith failed to be herself, scoring less than run-a-ball in a 31-run partnership, Nat continued to take the game deep. A 45-run third wicket stand followed before Ashleigh Gardner fell on the 81st ball with the score reading 103/3. Nat followed suit in the same set after scoring a well-tailored fifty before Heather Graham revived Trent Rockets' chances to make it past the finishing line. They needed 26 runs off the last ten balls when Graham smacked three fours and a six in within the next eight balls to reduce the equation to seven needed off the last couple of balls. A run-out followed and Graham failed to time a length delivery on the last ball to get past the finishing line, losing by three runs.
Finally!
After 12 losses in a row, Birmingham Phoenix Women have finally won a Hundred game.

Best in the side
Been watching The Hundred closely this year. Trent Rockets play far too many dot balls and as a result they fall short especially chasing a score. This one is slipping away as well. Nat Sciver-Brunt could be a bit proactive as she's the best in the side and in the world.
