Only a handful of cricketers in the world can produce a one-man show and entertain the spectators. It was certainly a ‘Big Show’ in the house when Glenn Maxwell took charge of the Melbourne Derby as a gigantic 122-metre six became the highlight of the first innings at the Marvel Stadium.

The Stars incurred early jitters despite a 31-run mandatory powerplay against the Gades. As the field spread out, they lost four wickets in a jiffy with the scorecard reading 55/5 in eight overs. Unbothered by one-half of the wickets lost, Maxwell counterpunched the opposition and transferred the pressure on the Gades with his 360-degree play. The all-rounder looked at his best with the bat, smacking the Gades to all parts of the ground with a gargantuan six being the prime highlight.

After a reverse sweep towards backward point for a four off Kane Richardson, Maxwell showcased his orthodox stroke on the next delivery. He stayed deep in the crease and pulled a length delivery outside the woods with the meat of the blade. The timing was so sweet that the ball marooned all the way into the second tier over deep mid-wicket and the big screen showed a handsome 122-meter distance being covered. Maxwell did seem sublime with the bat, but this gigantic maximum left the Twitterverse in awe.
