ISL 2015: Three reasons why Pune will beat Goa tonight
In this clash between two top-four teams, the winner will grab a significant lead at the top of the table. With two high scoring teams in action, today's action at the Fatorda Stadium promises to be a thriller.
1. Pune's prolific attack against Goa's leaky defense
The Stallions have scored the most number of goals in the league (10 in six matches). Coach David Platt is spoilt for choice upfront with Kalu Uche who scored a brace in the last game and was well supported by the enigmatic Tuncay Sanli, even not taking Adrian Mutu and Yendrick Ruiz into consideration.
Pune's forwards will be licking their lips at the prospect of facing a shaky Goa defense. Zico's men have conceded eight goals in their last four matches, including a 4-0 hammering at the hands of Chennaiyin FC. The home team will struggle to contain Pune's attack in this matc2. h.
2. Host of key players missing for Goa
The Gaurs have a long injury list to contend with at the moment- Lucio, Jofre, Reinaldo and Victorino Fernandes. Scottish forward Darryl Duffy suffered a hairline fracture in their last match against Mumbai and has been ruled out for the rest of the season. Meanwhile, Brazilian forward Rafael Coelho has joined the club as a replacement for Victor Simoes, who has also been ruled out for the tournament.3.
3. Nicky Shorey v Raju Gaikwad
English left back Nicky Shorey has put in some eye-catching performances this season and in the last game against Kerala Blasters, Shorey produced three assists. His accurate crossing has made Pune a more potent force in the final third coupled with their strikers who can dominate in the air.
Goa right back Raju Gaikwad will have the task of handling Shorey and the Indian defender has been in poor form this season. Romeo Fernandes will have to track back and help out Gaikwad if Goa are to contain Shorey from creating havoc once again – which seems highly unlikely.
