Former Uruguay star Diego Forlan, who also played for Manchester United and Atletico Madrid amongst others, has officially announced his retirement from football. Diego Forlan, who turned 40 last May, played his last game for Kitchee Sports Club of Hong Kong, a little over one year ago.

One of the greatest Uruguayan players to ever play the game, Diego Forlan has announced the end of his professional career this Tuesday, in an emotional press conference. Starting his professional career with Independiente in Argentina, Forlan arrived at Manchester to play for United in January 2002.

With the Red Devils, he won the Premier League in 2002/2003 and the FA Cup in 2003/2004. Next step was to play for Villarreal in 2004, and Forlan enjoyed the best moments of his career at La Liga. From 2004 to 2012, also with Atletico Madrid, Forlan reached an impressive number of 128 goals in 240 league games.

He was La Liga's top scorer in 2008/2009 with Atletico Madrid, scoring 32 goals in 33 appearances, and was a big part of Atletico's achievement of winning the Europa League in 2009/2010. Diego Forlan also played for Inter Milan, Internacional, Cerezo Osaka, Peñarol, Mumbai City and Kitchee, ending a career of 20 years.

For the National Team, the striker scored 36 goals in 112 appearances, winning the Copa America in 2011 and the Golden Ball at the 2010 World Cup.
