Srikanth Kidambi, who was eliminated in first round of Indonesian open, would need to play a qualifier in the first round while P.V. Sindhu is drawn against Linda Zetchiri at the Thailand Open. Saina Nehwal has been drawn against Busanan Ongbamrungphan in the USD 350,000 prize money tournament.

Srikanth Kidambi has been going through a rough patch lately. After losing out in the semis of the Malaysia Open and in the first round of the Indonesia Open, he would now play a qualifier to start his Thailand Open campaign, which is scheduled from July 10 to July 15.

Apart from Srikanth, World no. 55 Parupalli Kashyap would be an uphill task against Chinese World No. 3 Shi Yuqi. World Nop. 14 H.S Prannoy, who had an encouraging campaign in Indonesia Open has been drawn against Pablo Abian, againt whom he holds 1-0 record against Abian in his favor. World No. 20 Sameer Verma, who was knocked out by Vicktor Axelson in the second round of Indonesian Open, will be taking on against Tanongsak Saensombonsuk against whom he enjoys a 2-2 record against Saensombonsuk.

In the women’s singles category, Wrld No. 3 P.V Sindhu would face Linda Zetchiri, while Saina Nehwal has been tied against Busanan Ongbamrungphana, against Nehwal has won three matches while losing just one. Vaishnavi Reddy Jakka would compete against Sayaka Sato in the first round of USD 350,000 prize money tournament. There could be a possibility of an all-Indian semi-final if Nehwal and Sindhu both reach the semis.

For Kidambi it would be another chance to turn around his season after two consecutive defeats against Kento Momoto. Momoto defeated Kidambi in the semi-final of the Malaysian Open and then again in the first round of Indonesian Open. His record this year has been an unimpressive 11- 6.

Last year, Kidambi had enjoyed a purple patch, winning four Superseries tournaments. However, ever since hitting the peak of his career, the 25-year-old has suffered a downfall. Hence, he would be looking to turn things around for himself and make his comeback through the Thailand Open.
