Indian men’s snooker team of Pankaj Advani and Aditya Mehta suffered an agonising 2-3 defeat to Iran in the final of the 4th Asian Snooker team championship in Abu Dhabi on Thursday. After trailing 1-2, Pankaj Advani levelled things up, winning the fourth game, before India lost the fifth game.

India went into the final of the 4th Asian Snooker team championship with all the euphoria surrounding their semifinal win over arch-rivals Pakistan. India hoped for a good start, and Aditya Mehta, India’s lone professional snooker player, delivered the same by defeating Iran’s Amir Sarkosh 65-53. However, Soheil Vahedi stunned Pankaj Advani, who recently won the Asian 6-Red Snooker title, 54-7 to make it 1-1 in the match.

Iran took the lead for the first time in the match after the third game with Amir Sarkosh and Soheil Vahedi defeating Aditya Mehta and Pankaj Advani 77-1 in the doubles event. Although it looked like Iran will stroll to a victory, Advani levelled things up in the match with a 69-64 win over Amir Sarkosh. However, Soheil Vahedi ended India’s hopes of a win by defeating Aditya Mehta in the all-important final game to win the title.
